Sketchy Conversation with Brian Coffey, Philosophy Lecturer
Dr. Brian Coffey is the newest full-time Lecturer in Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University. He completed his PhD at the University of California, Davis, writing a dissertation on the nature of goodness. Immediately after graduate school, in 2014, he moved to Michigan to begin his first job: teaching philosophy at Grand Valley State University. He has lived in Michigan since then, and is now relatively adjusted to the cold Michigan winters (as much as a California native can be, anyway).
Brian's research and teaching interests are in ethics. He is committed to showing his students that we can think critically about our own moral beliefs, and engage in thoughtful discussions of them. Even with those who disagree with us. He was thus eager to volunteer with A2Ethics and served as a judge for both the Ethics Slam and the High School Ethics Bowl events in 2018.
