Ethics Symposium: The Social Causes of Cancer with Mary Bashshur (Zoom)

This series is framed around the premise that many trends in cancer morbidity and mortality are driven by a complex array of anthropogenic risk factors. Through a discussion of our own experiences and ethical perspectives, we will identify optimal strategies to address these issues in both public health and clinical medicine. We hope for this series to be insightful and help illuminate the ways in which both cancer survivability and prevention can be improved to mitigate its burden on our population.

The symposium moderator, Mary is a recent MPH graduate who will be starting medical school at the Tufts University School of Medicine this upcoming fall. She has a strong interest in bioethics and the influence of social determinants of health on cancer outcomes, particularly with regard to how vulnerable subpopulations have been shown to be disproportionately susceptible to higher incidence of the disease.
