A few weeks ago, while Wall Street investment banks were imploding and sides were rapidly forming and settling on too-big too-fail rescue and bailout plans, a story where sides had long ago been formed and set in stone from another fear-tinged period in American history, the 1950s during the Cold War, briefly came to light.

Keeping a handle on our quickly eroding language is becoming tougher by the day. Each generation creates its fun new interpretations of old words and phrases, and today I'd like to explore a few terms that were coined in our time, and our parent's time.

Advertisements are full of it. Your boss has to bullshit with you to keep things rolling smoothly at work. You had to bullshit a little bit to get the job in the first place. The Olympics are ripe with it. Elections rely on it. There is an area between the Truth and the outright Lies where we find our Gross National Product: Bullshit.
