Should I Attend the Wedding?
Submitted by Magda on Mon, 03/08/2010 - 15:36.An elderly relative is marrying a (by all appearances) lovely woman, and we are invited to attend. I'm thrilled for their happiness. My problem is with their church, which was founded on anti-gay sentiment, and has joined with a governing body which ( in the country where the church is based) is promoting legislation which institues the death penalty for homosexual practices, among other civil rights horrors.

Our next Olympic Winter Games will travel to Russia. This will no doubt trigger a whole raft of faux documentaries featuring menacing nesting dolls, and the sudden and more strange return of Yevgeny Plushenko. We have not seen the end of him, I fear.

Too Much Focus on Sport?

Shaun White Wins Second Gold

Shaun White won his second gold medal for Olympic Snowboarding Wednesday night. His spectacular performance outshined every other competitor, almost to a freakish extent. White is a snowboarding innovator, a pioneer in the sport. He trains in his own secluded half-pipe in the mountains, which can be reached only by helicopter. He is a phenomenon, but like many Olympic athletes, he is privileged and has the resources to out-train the competition.
