Dear A2ethics, I have a great little donut shop down the road. They have a drive-thru, and the smell of donuts frying up in the morning is irresistible. However, I am concerned about their health-code issues. The other day I saw them handle my money and my bagel without rubber gloves, just touching money and food all in one stroke. No hand-washing, just a smile, and a thank-you. I am not a serious germaphobe, but I believe in certain basic hygeine practices. I don't want to stop going there; it's convenient, and I like it. How do I approach this subject with them? Sincerely, Grossed out Dear Grossed, Talk to a manager. Send an email if you are concerned about it. Then step back and watch if your complaints take effect. If they are willing to make these small changes, which are completely reasonable and part of the legal health code. You need to speak up. I agree, it's gross. And I understand that you enjoy the convenience and friendly atmosphere of neighborhood bakeries like these. But you may want to consider other donut options if you are uncomfortable with their health practices. Breaking up with a donut shop is hard to do, but you have to be the strong one here. A2ethics
